Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect?

Sessions typically last anywhere from one to two hours, but there is no time limit, so we will never be rushed through a session. I'm very easy-going and like to go where the mood takes us. I have found that the best images come when I'm just playing and talking with a child, or when the family interacts with each other as if I am not there. If your child has any favorite toys, TV shows, games or sports, please let me know beforehand, as this will help me to connect with them better. I also want to hear ideas about from you about what you'd like to see in your portraits, so I encourage you to discuss them with me ahead of time.

What to wear?

For newborns, less is best. Nothing at all or simply a diaper is perfect. For all ages, clothing should be simple. In my fantasy world, my clients would show up looking like they've just stepped out of an Anthropologie catalog! lol That said, the three most important things I ask my clients to keep in mind when wardrobing their family for a session:

1 - Wear what makes you feel like your most fabulous self! In the same vein, also make sure your fabulosity is comfortable. If your clothes bother you, it will show in your photos.
2 - Try to complement colors rather than dressing uniformly (ie everyone in the same color top and bottom - think white shirt and khaki pants - I know you've seen it! lol). This also means you shouldn't be afraid of color.
3 - Don't be afraid of fashion, but be very afraid of too trendy. Hello...shoulder pads, leg warmers, piano ties...you shudder with horror looking back on your old pictures. You don't want to look back on your session in ten years and ask, what was I thinking?

For expectant mothers: I suggest wearing form fitting blouses in order to highlight your belly. If you plan to wear jeans, I recommend not putting them on until a few minutes before the session. This will ensure that there are no lines/indentations on the skin, and make for a smooth-looking belly. If you have chosen a beach for your portrait location, don’t be scared to go with a bikini and sarong! The expectant form is beautiful and I want to help you celebrate it.

What else to bring?
Just bring any props that you want to include (pictures from books or the internet can be used for inspiration). For a child's photo session please bring any toys, stuffed animals, snacks, or drinks that will help make your child comfortable and happy. If there is a special object (favorite blanket, family heirloom, etc.) you would like your child to pose with, please bring it and we will work to incorporate it into a photo.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Payments will be accepted in the form of cash, personal check, or PayPal. Please note, payments made by check will be deposited within 24 hours of our session. Moreover, your order will not be processed until your check has cleared with my bank.

If you have any questions about your session or want to run some ideas by me please give me a call or send an e-mail! I'd be happy to talk with you.
